Product Details

What the Stabilizer Does

In a raise boring string the stabilizer keeps the pipe centred in the hole and takes the side load off the connections. Without it, the string whips, the threads take bending they were not designed for, and the hole drifts off line — and in a raise, there is no easy way to correct it.

Same Material, Same Process

Stabilizers use the same material and the same manufacturing process as our raise boring drill pipe, so the assembly behaves as one system rather than as parts from different sources. Material is listed per size on this page.

Alloy-Tipped Working Surface

The working surface is tipped with alloy, which extends service life considerably over an untreated body. The stabilizer is the part of the string in continuous contact with the rock, so this is where life is won or lost. Multiple forms are available to suit different hole conditions.

Where It Works

Raise boring and shaft drilling in underground mines and civil tunnelling.

Where It Ships

Supplied to mining and tunnelling contractors in Africa, Southeast Asia and the Middle East.

Frequently Asked Questions

What sizes are available?

Matched to our raise boring drill pipe range, 176 mm to 327 mm. OD, thread, material and effective length are listed on this page.

How is it different from the drill pipe?

It uses the same material and process, with an alloy-tipped working surface that contacts the bore wall and centres the string.

Which form should I choose?

It depends on the hole condition. Tell us the hole diameter and the rock and we will recommend.

What is the minimum order and lead time?

Standard minimum order is 10 pieces, with a lead time of 10 days. Special specifications are made to order.
